Benefits of Garlic

Healthy benefits of my favorite herb

I’m pretty sure most of us are aware that garlic has wonderful benefits for the human body. Garlic brings this healthy goodness to the table every time we use it, along with its beautifully pungent aroma.

I learned, a little over a decade ago about garlic’s antibacterial properties. And, so I began to use garlic as a natural antibiotic whenever I had minor infection issues. Although, I can not recommend that you use garlic in place of a Dr. prescribed antibiotic, I do encourage you to speak to your care provider or natural path doctor to see if it may be a good alternative for you.

There are so many benefits to consuming this little powerhouse herb that I thought I would share just a few today.

#1 Garlic has been shown to lower blood pressure in humans and therefor has healthy benefits for your heart.

#2 Contains vitamin’s C and B6 so it can help boost the immune system

#3 Has analgesic properties as well as the antibacterial properties, which makes it a good option for a toothache while you are waiting to see the dentist.

#4 Can reduce inflammation. I use to crush a bulb of garlic and swallow like a pill for sinus infections. I thought it was the antibacterial properties that were of most benefit, but it turns out it actually reduces inflammation as well, so I could breath better. Because of this, it is also great in a poultice for bug bits and rashes. And, the anti inflammatory properties have been known to give relief from arthritis.

#5 Can stimulate gastric juices to help with digestion. But I do caution, that too much can lead to a tummy ache for some.

So these are just a few benefits of the little powerhouse herb known as garlic. You can consume the entire garlic plant, in all of it’s various stages. the green sprouts that shoot up are called scapes and can be used much like a green onion. You can add the flowers to salads, saute’s or just top off one of your favorite dishes. You can even eat the seeds that the flowers produce.

With all the wonderful healthy benefits of garlic I hope you will look for new and unique ways to consume more of this wonderful herb.
