Time to get your body moving
As I was texting with my daughter this morning about a yoga program that she introduced me to, I was struck with the realization that I am seriously in need of a physical tune up.
From P90x to can’t even stretch
Over the past 5 years, for various reason (or no reason at all) I personally have gone from doing a P90x workout 3-5 times a week to now, not even being able to stretch fully. How did this happen? I work a physically demanding job and try to stay busy when I am home. Now, I am not saying that my body was in great shape, when I was actively doing my P90x workouts, but physically I was feeling pretty great.
I have struggled with my weight most of my adult life and in recent years I have come to terms with the fact that my near 50 year old body, may never return to it’s youthful shape. And, although I refuse to give up trying, I have come to terms with this fact. However, I had not realized just how complacent in this I had become. After all nobody ever says, “I think I’ll gain weight and ruin my health”. Really, have you ever made the active choice to adopt an unhealthy lifestyle. More often than not, it just happens. You don’t know if you can run a mile, if you never try? But, I think the worse thing is thinking you can run a mile and realizing that you can’t even run to the mailbox. That put a different perspective on things for me.
So what do we do? We get moving! Don’t set a new years resolution to loss weight. Set a resolution to be the best you, you can be. Get moving just a little at a time. Whether you start a yoga class, or start walking to the mailbox, just get your body moving a little more than you did the day before. Eventually you will get where you need to go.
Studies show that if you work a sedentary job, you can decrease your chances of heart related health issues by 50% if you just get up and walk around the office 2 minutes of every hour. So what are you waiting for? Check out our 2 minute post from last year
